How to find a female wedding photographer.
If you want the women’s side of your wedding photographed without men present, you need a woman behind the camera. Here are your options, what to ask, and how to agree who sees your photos.
Your options
- A female photographer, working alone or with a female assistant.
- A mixed team, with a woman on the women’s side and a man on the men’s side.
- An all-woman team for both photography and video.
If you want the women’s side filmed too, check there is a woman on the video team as well, not only on the photography team.
Before you book
- Ask who will photograph your wedding. Some studios have several photographers, so ask for the name of the woman who will be there.
- Look at full galleries from weddings with separate spaces, not only the highlights on social media.
- Check which events they cover: the Nikah, the Walima, any other events, or all of them.
- Ask how many hours are included, and what extra hours cost.
- Ask when you will receive your photos, and how they are delivered.
Agree who sees your photos
Photos from a women-only space are private. Agree these points in writing before you pay a deposit:
- Whether they can post any of your photos online, and which ones. You can say none.
- That photos of the women’s side are delivered in their own private gallery.
- How your photos are stored, and who at the studio can see them.
- That they will ask you before using any photo in their portfolio or adverts.
